Sport, in numbers
Compelling visuals,
told through data.
We help people bring their stories to life through data. We publish our own reels, carousels and stills about sport — some have gone past a million views — and we make them for other people to publish too. You don't need to bring a dataset, just a subject you care about.
What we do
We tell sport's most remarkable stories through numbers. Often we publish them ourselves. Just as often we help other people bring their own stories and ideas to life.
Reels
Vertical video, as long as the story needs — twenty seconds if that's all it takes, a couple of minutes if there's more in it. Hook, argument, a number you remember.
- Script and storyboard
- Sourcing and checking
- Final MP4 and a caption
Carousels & stills
The same thing with fewer moving parts. Swipeable carousels that build an argument frame by frame, or a single chart for a post, a report or a deck.
- Multi-slide carousels
- Your palette or ours
- Screen and print sizes
Finding the story
You don't need data to start. Tell us the sport, the team or the subject and we'll go looking — for a record, a pattern, or something nobody has noticed yet.
- Research and story hunting
- Works with your data or without
- Numbers or narrative
Those three are a starting point rather than a menu. We're happy to make other kinds of visuals — a different format, something longer, a one-off graphic for print or a deck. Ask and we'll tell you whether we can do it well.
Who we work with
Anyone covering sport who wants a story told properly, whether or not they've got the numbers to hand.
Creators & media
Other accounts and newsrooms covering sport. Happy to collaborate on something we both post, or to create for you the piece you've got the idea for but not the time — yours to publish, under your own name.
Teams, clubs & rights holders
Clubs, federations, races and tournaments. There's usually something in a season's records that supporters would pass on if anyone drew it for them. We'll make it for your channels, the same as we would for a creator.
Data & tech companies
If the data is the product, the charts around it are doing the selling. We make cleaner ones for launches, reports and the feed.
How it works
If something happens tonight and it needs to be out tonight, we can do that. More often it's a few days of going back and forth about what makes the most compelling viewing, which is usually what makes the difference.
Find the story
Bring a dataset, a subject, or just a hunch. We go looking and come back with the one or two things worth telling.
Check it
Every figure traced to a source we can name on screen. If it won't survive a reply from a statistician, it doesn't go out.
Mock up a draft
We put together a rough version and then talk it through with you — what lands, what drags, what to cut.
Render and hand over
Vertical for the feed, plus whatever other sizes you need, and a caption written to go with it.
Who we are
Three friends who met doing DPhils at Oxford, all middle-distance runners, with a shared love of sport and of understanding the world through data.
Miles Weatherseed
A quantitative analyst, with a PhD in applied maths.
Alex Gruen
A background in maths and epidemiology, now doing a PhD in statistics.
Thomas Barrett
Finishing a PhD in earth science, using data to work out where the Earth's water came from.
Working together
Everything is quoted on its own, because it depends entirely on what the story turns out to need. One reel, a carousel, a run of them across a season — tell us roughly what you have in mind and we'll come back with a number and an idea. Collaborations and sponsored work are welcome; the Ingebrigtsen reel above started as one.
Say hello
You don't need a dataset or a deadline. If there's a story in your sport that deserves better than a paragraph, tell us about it and we'll take it from there. DM us on Instagram or send an email — either is plenty to start.
